使役動詞 ①でLetの解説をしましたが、今回は使役動詞②のMakeです。
Letは”やりたいことをさせてあげる”感じだったのに対して、Makeは”やりたくないことを無理やりさせられる”感じの時に使います。
使役動詞 〜させる・〜してもらう・〜させてもらう
Make 〜させる（強制する）
Make＋(人・物)＋動詞
– I made him study.
彼に勉強させた。
– He made me pay for dinner.
彼に夕飯を奢らせられた。
– She made me clean my room.
彼女に部屋の掃除をさせられた。
– I’ll make him call you.
彼にあなたに電話するようにさせるから。

Pressure
強制する
– I will never pressure you to do something you don’t want to.
私はあなたがやりたくないことを無理にやらせることはない。
– My dad pressured me to take over his company.
父から彼の会社を継ぐように圧力をかけられた。
Demand
要求する
– The customer demanded to see the manager.
その客は責任者に合わせるよう求めた。
– We demanded our money back.
私たちは返金の要求をした。
Push
〜するように押す、追い詰める
– The police pushed him into giving evidence.
警察は彼に証言するよう追い詰めた。
– I shouldn’t have pushed my child too hard to study.
私は子どもに無理やり勉強を押し付けるべきではなかった。
Force
力づくで嫌なことをさせる
– Many small business were forced to close due to the pandemic.
多くの中小企業がこのパンデミックで廃業を余儀なくされた。
– I can’t force her to stay.
私は彼女を無理に引き止めることは出来ない。
Order
権力を使って指示する、命令する
– The judge ordered me to leave the court room.
裁判官は私に法廷を去るよう命じた。
– The president ordered to close the border.
大統領は国境を閉鎖するよう指示した。
Require
必要とする、要求する
– Working with children require a lot of patience.
子どもに関わる仕事には高い忍耐力が必要とされる。
– We are legally required to pay the tax.
私たちは税金を支払うことを法で定められている。
